Viral issues

As a responsible small business and being “of an age”, I have taken it upon myself to Self Isolate.

COVID-19 has had a detrimental effect on communities all around the world  – my heart goes out to those affected. We must all support each other as best we can and keep our loved ones close.

I am in a privileged position – my workshop is secluded and I do not often see people anyway!

I will be continuing to work my usual hours and, fortunately, I have several exciting new projects to work on.  I have just added some new Chakra earrings to the website – three different varieties, including these SHORT ones, as requested! I hope you’ll like them.

All phone and web orders will be processed as normal BUT I will only be posting once a week so you may have to wait an extra day or two for your delivery. Sorry, its best to stay safe.

My daffodils are beautiful this year and there are tadpoles galore in my pond – I have much to be thankful for.  I hope you do too!

Magnetic rainbows and first daffodils

It’s the middle of February and I’ve had enough of storms and wintry weather – so here are some magnetised rainbow hematine beads to lift your spirits! We are threading them with our lovely solid pewter Celtic beads into a distinctive range of jolly jewellery to keep you balanced and stimulated. Rumour has it that these little rainbow riots are sometimes called “Stones for the Mind” – apparently they are good for concentration and memory!
I won’t forget the first daffodil to show its face this year, spotted on my track,  yesterday morning!

Autumn leaves

We’re over half way through November and the trees are almost bare here in Wales….there have been chilly winds for the last few days and the leaves have been swirling like confetti.

Seems like the perfect time to tell you about my beautiful and new Chakra Crystalights! A cut crystal glass drop and genuine Chakra gemstones, threaded with the magic of the ancient Celts in a handmade pewter Celtic bead – hanging at the window it will capture the sunlight and scatter glorious rainbows. Who doesn’t love a rainbow?! Did you know that the human body has seven Chakras or energy wheels and each of the genuine gemstones used here relates to one of those power centres? chakra crystalightA Chakra Crystalight will help to keep your space balanced and energized. And if the Chakra isn’t your thing, we make our Original Crystalights with a choice of ten different gemstones….all are lovely for seasonal gifting.

It’s quite hard not to mention Yuletide or Xmas or Christmas or The Holidays or whatever you like to call it at this time of the year. For myself, I rather like “Yule”. The word has Gothic origins, but English speakers are more familiar with Yule as the winter Festival from the Germanic lunar calendar. It was many years before it became the 12 day holiday associated with the feast of the Nativity, after the widespread adoption of Christianity throughout Northern Europe. In my house, we always have a Yule log for the fire, a nice big one so it lasts for many hours. This tradition goes back to medieval times, though in modern households the log now takes the shape of a cake!

A warm Welsh welcome awaits you at www.blackdragon.co.uk, where there are jewellery/gemwaith gift ideas galore…whatever the season. There is something for everyone and to suit every pocket. Or you can even indulge yourself in a special handmade treat.

Enjoy the last few days of November…as the days get shorter and the wind blows colder, let a Chakra Crystalight bring some rainbows and harmony into your life?

Is summer really over?

It’s a damp Thursday afternoon here in Wales and I know I keep banging on about how amazing the Agates in my Agate jewellery are…but I’ve had a new delivery. There are a couple of new colours of ‘marbled’ Agates, as well as the banded Agates you’re used to seeing and I think they are fabulous. I didn’t get too many, in case I didn’t like them…but I’m going to get some more. All feedback gratefully received.
Meanwhile, we’ve had a busy summer here.  We’ve made a lot of bracelets, earrings and pendants and this summer, you seem to have preferred our brightest colours!
It appears that the favourite bracelet is still the regular Celtic Chakra, though the Chunky Chakra bracelet is a close second. Well guess what? I’ve been working on a little Chakra bracelet too, so the littlies can have one just like Mummy! The finished length is 6.5” – we’ve experimented on as many grandchildren as we could! We’re packing it in an organza bag, with all of the usual information.
Needless to say (and no surprise), boxed Agate bracelets come next. This is great for us – there are now lots of different colours to choose from and they are a pleasure to combine, especially with this new delivery of ‘marbled’ beads.
The favourite Boxed Beady pendant style is the Dragons Eye. As you know, it looks great, is very tactile and we can make it with lots of different gemstones. I’ve developed a new technique for fettling the Dragons Eye beads, which makes them a lot less complicated to clean up and finish off! Let’s hope that my mould will be good for a lot more beads yet!
Back to my damp Thursday afternoon. As some of you know, we got caught up in the recent and sad demise of Thomas Cook and lost our holiday to Kefalonia. But I managed to get us away to Santorini instead, at the very last minute. We love the Greek Islands and Santorini did not disappoint. Its nothing but a great big volcano really, still active but not since 1950. What a fabulous week we had – lots of walking and swimming, plenty of big tomatoes and retsina, hot hot sunshine and the most beautiful big blue skies.
My batteries are recharged and I’m ready for your new orders.
Wales is lovely too, even if the leaves are starting to turn and fall. Now, where are my socks? xXx

Crystalights Crystalights Crystalights!

Aren’t they fabulous?!

The nimble-fingered Chris has put the finishing touches to a new batch of Crystalights this week and we have fresh supplies of shiny crystal glass drops with which to catch the sunshine for you! Hanging at your window, they will capture the sunlight and scatter rainbows – with the help of some genuine gemstones and a hand-made solid pewter Celtic bead!

What’s not to like?

There are ten gemstones to choose from, each with its own power. The Fluorite was a wise choice – it varies in hue from blues and greens to pinks and purples and is new to us. We love it.

Which one will you choose?

It has been a wet, windy and rainy Friday afternoon here in Wales and I haven’t seen a single ray of sunshine all day. August? Ha ha ha.

I’ve been busy in the Beadoir, casting beads. I made 1100 of the 9mm sphere beads…and then the limit switch on my casting machine failed. This controls the pneumatics which regulate the on/off pressure for mould compression. As you can see, the mould leaked and peppered the inside of my machine with hot pewter. Rob to the rescue – there’s a new switch on my shopping list. My casting machine is ancient and was “made with pride in America” rather a long time ago. I’m not sure how many more times it can be repaired…but I know Rob will do his best to keep it spinning for me.

Those 1100 little 9mm spheres now need fettling. I’ll do them individually and completely by hand, then they will be ready for the tumbling machine to clean and polish them. There will be hours and hours of fettling, probably whilst watching TV and definitely into the wee small hours. I hope you’ll appreciate my efforts…

With all best and beady wishes, let’s hope that the weather will soon improve!
